I wrote this song for all the folks who’ve lived their lives like me

Fate never made us famous like some big V. I. P.

We’re the ones who stand in line I guess it’s kinda sad

All we’ve got are memories of times we’ve never had.

Chorus:

I’ve never played with Eric, I’ve never sang with Rod

I’ve never talked to Clifford, though I know Cliff talks to God

I’ve never known these people, yet somehow I regret

All the things I’ve never done with the folks I’ve never met.

I never slept with Bridget when she was in her prime

I never walked with Johnny when Johnny walked the line

I never got to Woodstock or shared a joint with Paul

I must have missed the sixties - man -because I recall them all!

Chorus

I never rode with Woody and shared the grapes of wrath

I’m about as old as Dylan but he’s never crossed my path

I made my way to Graceland and stood outside the door

I never got to see the king he died two years before.

Chorus.

I’ve never rode a Harley wearing ‘Easy Rider’ specs

I’ve never pumped iron the Arnie– I’ve never had good “pecs”

I’ve never been to No Place or played the Albert Hall

I’ve never scored at Wembley well I’ve never scored at all!

Chorus

I never sat with Jesus at the final feast

He was the only blond haired Jew living in the Middle East

I’ve never met a lot of folks who don’t know who I am

I’ve always done it my way but no one gives a damn.

Last chorus:

I’ve never played with Eric

I’ve never sang with Rod

I’ve never talked to Clifford, though I know Cliff talks to God

I’ve never known these people but somehow I regret

All the things I’ve never done

Every since the world begun

I’m the one who never has fun

With the folks he’s never even met.
